Ankle Tendonitis - If You Feel Pain, Beware

Whether you believe it or not your feet support your body. You need to take care of them the best you can. If you start to feel pain and / or swelling in the ankle area of the foot, you could be showing signs of ankle tendonitis and you should take care of this immediately.

We will talk about what you can do to help prevent tendinitis in ankle and some background information.

Runners and joggers can get into a training mode that can be sometimes hard on their ankles. This also can happen to people who have jobs that required them being on their feet constantly. What can happen is that you may start to develop tendonitis in your ankles.

What is tendonitis? It is really just an inflammation of the tendon. The tendon is used to connect the bone to the actual muscle. What happens sometimes if the tendon gets overworked or you may put too much force on a particular tendon you could develop tendonitis.

Some symptoms of tendonitis are swelling, pain and the area that is swollen is tender to the touch. It could be difficult to move the ankle without a shooting pain going from the ankle to the calf.

There is another similar tendonitis which is called Achilles tendonitis. This is the inflammation of the Achilles tendon and this is very common form of ankle tendonitis. These two types of tendonitis occur in runners and people on there feet a lot.

Treatment for Ankle Tendonitis

If you have a mild case of ankle of tendonitis, you can use a home remedy that works great and that is ice. You can use a frozen bag of vegetables to accomplish this. You want to just use the ice for 15 minutes at a time. Don’t let the area get numb, that is not good. Ice it, then let it warm up and do it again. If you need to be on your feet, you can use an ace bandage to help support the ankle and prevent further injury.

A cortisone injection helps tendonitis pain and is a good remedy. Doctors don’t like to inject cortisone in the foot area. The ankle tendon is easy to rupture with an injection of cortisone. You may also find relief from ankle tendonitis is by putting a cushion in the shoe. This will help support the foot and help keep you pain free during activity.

Everyone realizes that your feet are a vital part of your body. If you can, you want to keep them injury free and that includes ankle tendonitis or you could have permanent injury.

If you start to feel pain or swelling in your ankle and you have had ankle tendonitis in the past, you need to try and not over do it. One thing that you may want to do is to talk to a physical therapist or even an orthopedic doctor to learn how to not injure or learn to maneuver your feet during physical activity. This will help prevent further damage. If you can, get off your feet and give them a chance to rest.
